About Us
Vallappuzha Grama Panchayat is located in the Pattambi Block of Pattambi Taluk in Palakkad district. Spanning an area of 21.64 sq. km, the panchayat is bordered by Kulukkallur Panchayat to the north, Koppam Panchayat to the west, Nellaya Panchayat to the east, and Shornur Municipality to the south. This panchayat comprises the areas of Vallappuzha, Cherukode, and Kuruvattur. The first elected panchayat governing body in Vallappuzha assumed office in 1964. Key hilly areas include Choorakkode Kunnu, Tharakunnu, Manikkunnu, Velliyamkunnu, Kaniyarakunnu, and a portion of Pulmukham Mala. Velliyamkunnu and Tharakunnu are government reserve forests. The historic monument of Ramagiri Fort is situated between Velliyamkunnu and Tharakkunnu. Following the two annual spells of rainfall—the Southwest and Northeast monsoons—the rest of the year is marked by drought. The panchayat's primary water sources are limited to long streams and small ponds. E.M.S. Namboodiripad's ancestral home is located in this panchayat. The Cherukode Ramagiri Fort still stands on the southwestern border as a monument to the military campaign of Tipu Sultan, which passed through this region.
